About Us

The Paul Laurence Dunbar Alumni Scholarship Picnic Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation with a mission to provide access to postsecondary education to  prospective graduates who otherwise would not have the financial means to fulfill their educational goals. The Foundation sees higher education as a catalyst, an agent of change for individuals, families, communities, and nations.The Foundation goal is to reconnect our graduates through our very own Alumni Association and to support the further development of our alma mater for a new generation of students.

Dunbar Vocational Career Academy is a high school that provides exemplary academic and vocational programs designed to prepare well-rounded students for rigorous post-secondary educational experiences and the world of work.  Dunbar Vocational Career Academy, located in the Bronzeville neighborhood on the south side of Chicago, has graduated over 19,000 students in its rich 77 year history.

Since 2009, our Alumni Scholarship Picnic Committee has raised monies by having fundraising and soliciting donations via social media.  Our collective efforts have resulted in over $100,000 in scholarships being awarded to over 100 students as well as bringing together thousands of alumni from across the country to the annual picnic.
